
Wild Swimming Walks
If you've experienced Wild Swimming or the benefits of cold water you will know there is no other feeling like those first few moments in the water, nor that amazing feeling when you get back out and have done it. There are as many reasons to Wild Swim as there are people who do it, maybe you enjoyed the physical benefits, the beauty of the environment you do it in or spending time with the people you do it with. Whatever your reason for loving Wild Swimming, let me introduce you to new swim spots in stunning settings. Take in the views on the way and explore new areas. All walks are fully guided so you won't need to worry about finding your way or working out where to park. Come on your own or with friends, swim or dip to suit yourself or simply enjoy the walk.

Rame head and Penlee point circular
This circular route takes in some of the best coastal views of Devon and Cornwall and the opportunity for two swims, one at the secluded beach at Penlee Point and the other off Cawsand beach at the end of the walk. The walk itself is primarily on coastal path with only a short inland section. The views are stunning and stretch to Dartmoor, over Plymouth, to the Eddystone lighthouse, the Mewstone and along the Cornish coast including Whitsand Bay. We visit the fascinating grotto at Penlee point and the old chapel right on the top of Rame Head. Terrain - This walk follows the coastal path with uphill and downhill sections. It is mostly a good path but can be muddy in places. The access to the beach is over open ground, down some steps and easily over the rocks. Approximate distance of walk - 9km Approximate time 4-5 hours**

Sharrah Pool
Sharrah pool is a wild swimming gem found on the upper section of the River Dart. This glorious walk through the woods winds it was up the side of the dart with beautiful and ever changing views around each corner. The path is uneven and steep in places but fully worth the effort. Once Sharrah pool is reached there will be the opportunity for a dip or swim, depending on what you fancy. The pool is long enough to swim up and down with gently flowing water. Once dressed there will be time to warm up with a cup of tea (or drink of your choice), take in the beautify surrounding before beginning the return journey along the same path we arrived on. This walk is not to be missed, you will find yourself returning time and time again. Terrain - This walk follows a path with rough terrain including sections with exposed tree routes, rocks and in places it can be wet. There are a couple of small streams to cross and one quite steep section, all of this will be taken at the pace of the group. Approximate distance of walk - 6km Approximate time 3.5 hours**

Tavy Cleave
Tavy Cleave, located high on the River Tavy, has some glorious swim spots located within this rugged and stunning valley. The walk is slightly more adventurous than some and well worth the effort. With beautiful views at each turn, you really feel you are getting into the wilderness of Dartmoor. The pool we will swim at is deep with a stunning waterfall at the top which you can swim towards, or make your way along the rock platform at the side, and then allow the river to push you back down into the main pool. The steep valley, with Tor's looming above give this swim a real atmospheric feel, one not to be missed. As with all walks dip or swim to suit you. Terrain - This walk initially follows a narrow path alongside a beautiful leat after which the terrain becomes boggy and challenging in places. Having a guide means you will be taken on the best route the terrain has to offer, a reasonable level of fitness is required and a sense of adventure. It's well worth it. Approximate distance of walk - 6km Approximate time 4-5 hours**

Crazywell pool full day
Crazywell pool is steeped in Dartmoor myth and legend, despite being one of the largest on the moor, it is hidden from view until you are almost in it. This circular walk will take you to the pool via the beatiful Devonport Leat, an impressive aquaduct and if you are feeling brave the elusive Cramber Tor which on a good day has views to Plymouth Sound and across Burrator Reservoir. Once at Crazywell Pool there will be the opportunity for a dip or swim, depending on what you fancy. The pool itself is 100 meters long so lenghts are even a possiblity. Once dressed and warmed up we will begin the journey back through the woods and via the stunning Leather Tor Bridge. Terrain - mixture of open moorland which can be uneven with rocks, grassy tussocks and depending on the time year wet or boggy ground and paths which can at times be uneven. Approximate distance of walk - 9km Approximate time 4-6 hours**

Stoke to Butcher's Cove Coastal
Butcher's cove is nestled in the stunning South Hams Coastline and this walk along the South West Coast Path will provide you with stunning views at every turn. Starting and ending near Stoke Point we will visit the fascinating ruin of the Church of St Peter the Poor Fisherman before heading off along the coast path with views to Burgh Island, Bolt Tail and the Eddystone Lighthouse. Butchers Cove is reached via a short scramble down rock cut steps and provides a secluded spot for a swim and some lunch before returning via the same route with a different set of beautiful views. As this walk is part of the South West Coast Path there are the expected steep uphill and downhill sections and the paths vary from narrow to the wider sections, some of which make up Revelstoke Drive, a circular carriage ride created in the 1880s by the landowner to take his visitors on spectacular carriage rides. This walk provides not only awe inspiring views but will also leave you feeling you've earned your dinner! Terrain - This walk is mostly on coast path and therefore requires a reasonable level of fitness however there are plenty of spots to stop and take in the view. Some of the paths are narrow and/or on a slope, there a steep uphill and downhill sections. The access to the beach is via a narrow path and down some stone cut steps with a little exposure on one side. Support can be provided and we will take it at a pace that suits the group. Approximate distance of walk - 14km Approximate time 5-6 hours**

Crazywell pool - short version
If you would like to visit Crazywell pool for a swim but would rather a shorter day this is the walk for you. This walks takes you to Crazywell pool the most direct route and therefore means you can get back to the car after your swim in less time. This short circular route follows a beautiful path along the edge of the plantation, with views on a good day to Down Tor, and then over the open moor to this hidden gem. On the way back we will take a route through the woods visiting the beautiful Leather Tor bridge before returning to the car park. There will be plenty of time for a dip or longer swim depending on your experience and preference. The pool itself is 100 meters long so lengths are even a possibility. Once dressed and warmed up we will begin the journey back. This is an excellent introduction to Wild Swimming on Dartmoor (please note experience of wild/cold water swimming is required) and while the walk to the pool is slightly uphill most of the way this means the walk back is downhill or flat. Unsure if this is for you?
